Code cards will be replaced with more convenient solutions for online banking
2015-12-18
On 1st of April 2016, the decision regarding new requirements for security of internet payments issued by the Board of the Bank of Lithuania will come into effect. Laminated paper code cards, which are currently used by Nordea’s customers, will be replaced with new and more advanced measures.
Customers who are already using Nordea’s login code generators or mobile signature (mobile-ID) will not need to take any additional actions. These customers will be able to continue to confirm payments using a generator or a mobile signature. Customers using code cards will be offered new types of code generators.
With smartphones becoming an inseparable part of our lives and more and more people managing their everyday financial matters through mobile banking, Nordea has developed a special application for smart devices which customers will be able to use to log into online banking and confirm their operations. This application is a simpler and more convenient equivalent to the code generator and can be used on any smart device. A customer will receive a request on his/her smart device regarding the action being performed and will have to confirm it by entering a PIN code. The application has already been successfully used by Nordea’s customers in Finland, where more than 100 000 of the bank’s clients have downloaded the application to their devices within a couple of months.
For customers who are not using smart devices, we will offer a new type of a generator.
You will be able to order the selected type of a generator through online banking. We will notify you via a separate message in January 2016 once the application for generator ordering will be enabled. Mobile applications will be available for downloading in the official app stores, while physical generators (for those who have chosen this option) will be sent by post to the address indicated.
From 1st of January, 2016, we will not issue code cards anymore but existing customers can continue using theirs until 1st of April.
From 1st of April, customers will no longer be allowed to confirm payments exceeding 30 EUR using a code card. The only options to confirm such payments will be using a code generator (application or physical) or a mobile signature. Eventually, the bank is planning to abandon the usage of code cards altogether.
Nordea’s code generating mobile application is a more modern and a more user-friendly solution in line with the needs of a modern customer.
